Week 4 Meeting with Site Supervisor Progess on ARP

I met with my CTE director and site supervisor on two different occasions. Both administrators suggested that I incorporate a technology activity into every required technology integration class that is mandatory on our campus. This is a monthly district/campus requirement. Some concerns that may change in my project will be incorporating many of my ideas in an on-line Moodle lesson for the faculty. This will allow the faculty added flexibility and will encourage acceptance and participation. My project affirmations will continue to be static. I will have weekly meetings and project evaluations with my site supervisor. My Action Research Project will require input from my site supervisor, administrators and faculty members to ensure that I include cross-curricular strategies for technology integration.

Week 5 Progress-- Action Research Project

Future Implementation of Project

I have been reading various books on improving teacher effectiveness. Quality instruction should be a teacher's priority. I read about the four dimensions of Learning Criteria to support 21st Century Learners-Foundation Learning, Stretch Learning, Learner Engagement and Personal Skill Development which help educators establish a learning environment that nutures well-rounded people.
(It Is Not Us Against Them Creating the Schools We Need (Mcnulty, Raymond J.)

My plan is to ask my principal to encourage the faculty to read about these four dimensions. ( The CTE Department would provide the content reading.)  Individual teaches can adopt these dimensions and focus on the areas in their classrooms. There's no prescribed way to define or use the criteria, which is as it should be because every school is unique, improving individual teacher effectiveness is the goal.

Education Leaders Using Blogs

Blogging can be a powerful tool whether you want to be a teacher, principal or even an educational policy-maker.  Learning all you can about the a specific research or strategy and how to be a more effective  leader can be encouraged through blogging. Blogs can fill you in on the latest news, provide inspiration, and ensure that you are up-to-date with the latest educational technologies.

Week Two:Blog Reflection: Lessons Learned From Site Supervisor Meeting

Conference with Site Supervisor:

Campus C-tech, CTE coordinator, building principals are very supportive of my ARP project idea. Although, all administrators questioned me on how I would implement and measure my Project findings?  I am researching journals, books and numerous blogs on methods of evaluation. The implementation and evaluation methods cannot be a burden to my adminstrators and fellow faculty.
I certainly want this to be an enjoyable and useful project.

Week 4 Action Research Plan Journal Comment

Teachers have the opportunity to leave an indelible impression on their students’ lives. School experiences mold, shape, and, can influence how children view themselves inside and outside of school. These school memories have the potential to last a lifetime in students’ minds and can play a consequential role with present and future decisions. It does not take long for students to realize that teachers make the difference between a long and boring school year and an exciting and challenging year. This comment validates my project idea. I want to be a more effective teacher for my students and I know that my fellow faculty members do as well.

DRAFT ACTION RESEARCH JW

SCHOOL VISION: Improving Teacher Effectiveness=Student Engagement
Goal: Creating an improved foundation for Teacher Effectiveness=Student Engagement +Incorporating Technology activities.

Outcome
Teachers can have direct control and make changes instantaneously in some areas. For other changes to occur, it will take time for both students and the teacher to develop new skills. Improvements may depend on planning and seeking out new solutions or making changes at the school-wide level .Teachers can have direct control and make changes instantaneously in some areas. Activities

Active learning strategies. While it may sometimes be efficient to have students listen to a brief lecture, view video material, or read a textbook, doing these types of isolating, sedentary activities on regular basis becomes mind-numbing rather than mind-engaging. There are strategies that naturally contribute to a much higher level of student engagement. For example, cooperative learning strategies in which students are organized into structured discussion groups and play specific roles in analyzing problems and seeking solutions are more engaging than listening to a lecture. Moreover, varying instructional strategies adds interest and increases engagement. Even the most exciting activities, if done continually, lose their appeal.

RESOURCES/RESEARCH TOOLS NEEDED

Habits

These are the routines and procedures that teachers create in the classroom. Habits include the way that students enter a classroom or engage in an activity at the start of every class period. Other habits include the ways that students open and organize materials that they need for the day, move from large to small groups for various activities, and work on individual problems. Teachers can create improved classroom environments and higher levels of student engagement if they focus on appropriate procedures and have students practice those procedures until they become habits. When students fail to follow the procedures, teacher must remind students of the rules and ways in which they can practice them. Good habits help to make effective use of instructional time and reduce the disruption that distracts students from the learning process. It is through practices that these procedures become powerful habits and keep students engaged in learning.

Fundamental skills.

These are the basic proficiencies that all students need to be able to participate in class and complete their work. Student need basic reading skills, for example, to be able to understand directions and materials used in any subject area. Students also need to acquire the skills to facilitate discussions and to learn how to listen to the teacher as well as other students in group discussions. They also need basic skills in technology for doing Internet research or preparing PowerPoint presentations. In addition, students need to learn basic social skills. To function in the classroom and workforce and as responsible citizens, they have to The following key aspects of pedagogy help teachers create an environment in which rigorous and relevant learning can happen

Action Research Project. jhw

Action Research is a practical approach to professional inquiry in any social situation. I have learned that this method will help to improve my teaching strategies and effectiveness. I am concerned that things are not going as well as I wish and that I need implement a new initiative.

Action research is a method of sorting out these concerns and reveal possible solutions and improvements.

Education leaders might use blogging for personal journaling and reflection. This would be helpful to them to go back and view their thought on things that happened in the past and see how they handled those situations. This is especially helpful if they are trying to handle a familiar problem. Because blogs can be accessed by others on the internet, those who read the educational leaders blog might be able to give advice on how to handle similar situations. Thus his or her blog can become a new source of information from which to get strategies to address situations of concern.

Improving Teacher Effectiveness

ARP Improving Teacher Effectiveness
Are teachers different now than in 1952? Compare Goofy, Teachers are People to an XtraNormal robot and GOOD teacher characteristics are similar. Teachers must be caring, compassionate, kind and connected. How do we improve teacher effectiveness? My goal, as a veteran teacher, is to be a better instructor for my students and to engage their learning every day, every class period! Hopefully, this project will motivate and inspire me.
